Superior Ice Year

One winter of ice on Lake Superior, 2025–26, as music

One ice season on Lake Superior, from 1 November to 15 June. The lake is cut into eight regions and each region is a voice: the west sings lowest and the east highest, so the chord you hear is the ice pattern on the map. Ice, water, air, sunlight, wind, snow, rain and birds each get their own instrument, and a quiet ghost tone follows the lake’s median year. Press play, then tap a region to hear and see its own year.
